Activist Assata Shakur born

Activist Deborah Byron Chesimard better known as Assata Shakur is born in New York City. She was a member of the Black Panter Party. She escaped from prison where she was serving a sentence for felonies including the murder of New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foester and has been living in Cuba since 1984.
