First U.S. Army school for black pilots opens

The 99th Pursuit Squadron was activated at Chanute Field in Rantoul, Illinois. This evolved into the 99th Fighter Squadron at the Tuskegee Institute, a highly regarded university founded by Booker T. Washington in Tuskegee, Alabama.[
